"The Stage"

Maria Bonnevie is a Swedish-Norwegian actress. Whilst born in Västerås, Sweden, the daughter of two actors grew up in Oslo.

At age 16, while Maria went to the drama section at Hartvig Nissen High School in Oslo, she got her first film part in Hrafn Gunnlaugson’s action adventure The White Viking, in 1991. That same year she played the main part in Ola Solum’s The Polar Bear King, based on a classical Norwegian fairytale. Then followed her first stage appearance in August Strindberg’s "Easter".

In 1993 Maria was accepted at The National Swedish Theatre Academy in Stockholm. Her international breakthrough came with her part in Bille August's film Jerusalem, based on Selma Lagerlöf's epic novel by the same name (1901-1902). Since finishing acting school in 1997 she has been employed at the theatre and has acted in many classics.
