The designers
Karina Holmen and Rue Verte Plus has in collaboration with Veronica Sønsteby from Jane Doe in Oslo been responsible for the interior in twelve of Grand Hotels Junior Suites.
Karina Holmen: ’The twelve Junior Suites we were asked to re-invent, all had great potential due to the size and height of the different rooms. It was important to us to enhance the classical elements of the rooms, but at the same time infuse a more modern atmosphere into the suites. We therefore chose a classical starting point using luxurious textiles and dark colours, mixing it with modern furniture and second hand finds, and finally adding some future design classics. The sofaes all have a clean and modern shape, while the sofa tables are second hand bargains, and the lamps come from a selection of up and coming designers.
Grand Hotel has a great collection of art and decorational pieces that we were allowed to use in the different rooms. The twelve suites all got their own colour; the dark grey, the yellow, the orange, the blue, the red, the pastel, and so on. The art and the different colour schemes all helped give the suites their own personality, making the exploration of the different rooms an exciting venture.
Karina Holmen is a co-owner of the interior shops ’eske’ in Oslo, and Rue Verte Plus in Copenhagen. The latter has just been featured in the German publishing house Te Neues’ last coffee table book ’Luxury Stores – Top of the World’ as one of the worlds 50 best shops.
